Originally from Northern Ireland, Barbara began her career as a successful session vocalist, recording and performing with many well-known bands and solo artists, including Peter Gabriel, Bill Wyman, Errol Brown, Donny Osmond and Paul Young. She appeared in numerous pop videos and live TV performances.
Barbara is best recognised for her 2 years in Channel 4's " Brookside ", playing the role of much-loved Irish mum, Niamh Musgrove. She then went on to play Leigh Ashworth in Series 3 of "Doctors" for the BBC and will soon be seen in ITV's "Emmerdale". Other TV credits include: " Holby City " (BBC), "The Bill" (ITV), "The One" (Series 1 & 2, ITV), "Dangerfield" (BBC), "Bergerac" (BBC).
Barbara won critical acclaim for her performance of New Jersey housewife, Maggie, in Michael Cristofer's Pulizer Prizewinning "The Shadow Box" (Southwark Playhouse) and for her comic portrayal of the neurotic Olive Braddock in Sacha Brooks' "The Graduate" (No 1 Tour). Other theatre credits include: Alice in Nickolas Grace's "Starry Starry Night", "Dead of Night" (National Tour), "Hamlet" (Greenwich Playhouse), "Strip Poker" (Malcolm Needs Productions), "Top Girls" (Illusions Theatre Co.), "A Streetcar Named Desire" (Tristan Bates Theatre).
Films include: Mary Magdalene in "Can't Bank On Heaven" (Scottish Media Group / Dragon's Lair), LeeAnne, a 1960's American mom in "Scary Movies" (Dittman / Miramax) and Shirley, the troubled schizophrenic in "In The Dark" (Scottish Media Group / Dragon's Lair).
