Francis Church was born in Liverpool and studied at the Royal Scottish Academy Of Music And Drama with Peter Alexander Wilson and Jeffrey Lawton, graduating with a M.Mus in Advanced Opera from the Alexander Gibson Opera School. Whilst at college he won the Verdi Prize at the National Mozart Competition and Scottish Opera’s John Noble Competition. He completed his studies at the National Opera Studio supported by Scottish Opera and the Nicholas John Memorial Trust.

His opera appearances include Baron Douphol La Traviata, Angelotti Tosca, Benoit La Bohème, Starveling A Midsummernight’s Dream, Sid Albert Herring, Pacuvio The Touchstone, Guglielmo Così fan tutte, Fieramosca Benvenuto Cellini, Schaunard La Boheme, Dumas Andrea Chenier and Smirnoff The Bear.  Since leaving the Opera Studio, he has worked with Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera, Clonter Opera, Grange Park Opera, toured the USA as Sharpless Madama Butterfly with London City Opera and sung Danilo Merry Widow in South Africa with Carl Rosa Opera.

On the concert platform, he has performed throughout Scotland, the North of England and the South of France in works such as Coronation Ode Elgar, Elijah Mendelssohn, Messiah Handel, Five Negro Spirituals Tippet and Faure’s Requiem. He also sung the National Anthem at the ladies European Football Championships, which was televised on the BBC.

He has appeared in Master classes with Benjamin Luxon, Roger Vignoles, John Streets, Dame Josephine Barstow, studied Mozart and Britten roles with Sir Thomas Allen at the Britten-Pears School in Aldeburgh and appeared on BBC Television in a masterclass with David Pountney.
