John Altman’s theatrical career began at Leeds Grand Theatre and Opera House in 1976 where he worked as assistant stage manager and flyman, and did the occasional walk-on. He moved on to Leicester Haymarket Theatre and then toured Europe with the Pip Simmons Theatre Group.

Versatile in theatre, television, film and radio, his theatre credits include: Whodunnit, Up In The Gallery, Dangerous Obsession, Deadfall and he has played the role of Bill Sykes in Oliver!, Jigger in Carousel, Tippie Gray in Little Tramp, Rocco in Oh, What A Night!, Billy Flynn in Chicago The Musical, Lucky Eric in Bouncers, Glenn Miller in American Patrol, Gangster in Kiss Me Kate and Porter in Worms Eye View.

Television Credits include Harry Hill’s Soapington Way, Knight School, No Sweat, Adams Family Tree, Cold Lazarus, Famous Five, Black Hearts In Battersea, Seekers, Minder, Bouncing Back, Lucky Jim, Life After Death, Take Two, Gentlemen And Players, The Paradise Club, Up Your News, The Ghosts Of Oxford Street, TV Squash, Monster TV, Coral Island, Bo Selecta 3, A Child In The Forest and, of course, EastEnders. He was recently seen leading the Green Team in Fear Factor for Sky 1, in which he walked the wing of a bi-plane travelling at 200mph, 1000 feet above Argentina!

John’s Films include: The Story Of, The Wager, The First Great Train Robbery, Quadrophenia, Return Of The Jedi, The Birth Of The Beatles (playing George Harrison), American Werewolf In London, Memoirs Of A Survivor, It’s Been Real, Dressing Down, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Remembrance, Hell to pay, 1969 and It Could Be You.

John is a keen swimmer, runner, plays drums and guitar and has been taking photographs since the age of eight.

This year John completed filming the lead in a new UK feature film called Photoshoot and since Christmas Day last he has once again been on our screens as Nick Cotton in Eastenders.
