David Van Day started his career in showbiz at the grand old age of
ten with various acting parts on stage and screen including the
musical Oliver, TV commercials for Coca-Cola, and Clarks shoes and
the cult horror movie Do You Believe in Fairies, which was recently
re- released.
David won a scholarship to Italia Conti in his teens where he
initially took a greater interest in acting rather than singing. His
first taste of success in the music industry was in the pop group
Guys 'n' Dolls. They enjoyed significant chart success all over the
UK and Europe. During his time in the band, David met singer Thereza
Bazar who he left the band with to form duo Dollar in 1978.
Dollar became one of the most successful duos in pop music history.
In the 2001 show - Best Duets of all Time for Channel 4 - Dollar
were placed number five in this rundown, ahead of Ike & Tina Turner
and Donny & Marie Osmond. They had countless hits on the UK (and
European) charts during the late seventies and early eighties,
including Shooting Star, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Hand Held In Black
And White, Mirror Mirror, Give Me Back My Heart, Videotheque and
O L'Amour (which was their last Top 10 hit in 1988).
Since Dollar's spilt in 1988 they have had various reunions
including the TV show Reborn In The USA in 2002, the eighties
revival tour Hear & Now and in 2002 - a tribute concert to producer
Trevor Horn at Wembey Arena in 2004. Their latest reunion was
earlier on this year for Living TV’s new show Pop Goes The Band
giving pop stars from the eighties a makeover.
In addition to Dollar, David joined the successful band Bucks Fizz
in the 90’s and stood as a Conservative candidate for Brighton.
David made a huge impact in 2008 when he arrived in the jungle in
I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! DVD - as he became known - was
the name on everyones lips. Building up a massive following and
coming 4th, David was a funny and brilliant addition to all the talk
shows, GMTV, The Wright Stuff and Richard and Judy who loved him so
much hired him as their roving reporter for The Brit Awards – the
only presenter to get red carpet interviews with all the stars –
including Duffy, Tom Jones, Piers Morgan and the Hoff. A weeks guest
presenting on The Wright Stuff and own show for MTV followed –
presenting Official All Time Top 40 80’s Bestsellers with David Van
Day.
Other recent guest appearances include Harry Hill’s TV Burp,
Celebrity game, Prison Break for the new series of Ant and Dec’s
Saturday Night Takeaway, Big Brothers Big Mouth, The Podge and Rodge
Show, The Sunday Night Project and Celebrity Juice.
Soon to be seen in new comedy show for BBC3 Pull the Other One.
